Introduction: What Is BPD?

Hi! I'm Kayli Wright and BPD has always been a prevalent part of my life. My mother was diagnosed with BPD, or borderline personality disorder, when I was in middle school. This diagnosis gave me a new perspective for how and why my mother felt and did the things she did. I would like to use this blog to help inform people about BPD in order to shed light on the people suffering with this mental illness. Borderline personality disorder is most known for its severe mood swings, impulsive behavior, and difficulty forming stable personal relationships. However, there are various other aspects and behaviors associated with BPD than those three symptoms. BPD can include anxiety, depression, abandonment issues, major periodical shifts in identity, and paranoia. The most notable symptom of borderline personality disorder is issues in regulating emotions which play a driving factor in almost all of the other symptoms. In this blog, we will dive deeper into BPD and its intense symptoms and associated behaviors.

Important question surrounding BPD that I hope to answer in this blog:

  1. How is borderline personality disorder different from bipolar disorder?

  2. What does living with borderline personality disorder feel like?

  3. How do you get diagnosed with BPD?

  4. Are there any cures to BPD?

  5. How many people in the world have BPD?

  6. How common is BPD?

  7. Who is most likely to have BPD

  8. Does BPD affect each individual diagnosed with it differently?
